Today I’m again switching it up.  I’ve been asked over and over again to give some suggestions for series and movies that are currently streaming. I’m almost embarrassed to admit how many hours I’ve spent streaming – pre- and during COVID19.  With this post, everyone will know how unproductive I’ve been throughout this pandemic.  Since my “couch potato” list below contains only what I have personally viewed, it also reveals my (narrow) viewing preferences.  You may remember that some of these I’ve already mentioned in the In Seclusion section (above).  Chernobyl                 Dramatizes the story of the 1986 nuclear accident. HBO/Prime Miniseries. 1 season, 5 episodes.

Offspring                  A Melbourne obstetrician in her thirties struggles with the increasingly chaotic family, and the romantic and professional aspects of her life. Netflix. 7 seasons. (one of my favs).

Occupied                  Focuses on political and environmental issues affecting Scandinavia. The ten-part Nordic drama is based in the near future, when environmental concerns prompt the Norwegian government to stop all oil and gas production in the North Sea. Netflix. 3 seasons. Subtitles.

The Killing               Seattle homicide detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder are deeply affected by the murders they investigate in this dark, acclaimed crime series. Hulu. 4 seasons.

Broadchurch            The murder of a young boy in a small coastal town brings a media frenzy, which threatens to tear the community apart. Netflix. 24 episodes.

In the Dark               A blind woman with vices finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation when her best friend turns up dead. Netflix. 26 episodes.

Fleabag                      A hilarious and poignant window into the mind of a dry-witted, sexual, angry, grief-riddled woman, as she hurls herself at modern living in London. Prime video. 2 seasons.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel    A housewife in 1958 decides to become a stand-up comedy – a decision that seems strange to everyone except her. Amazon. 2 seasons.

Dead to Me               A dark comedy centered around a hot-headed woman searching for the hit-and-run driver who mowed down her husband. Netflix. 2 seasons.

Unorthodox              A Hasidic Jewish woman in Brooklyn flees to Berlin from an arranged marriage and is taken in by a group of musicians — until her past comes calling. Netflix. 1 season.

Shtisel                       Israeli television drama series about a fictional Haredi Jewish family living in Geula, Jerusalem. Subtitles. Netflix. 2 seasons.

The Kominsky Method     Comedy-Drama. Acting coach Sandy Kominsky and best friend Norman Newlander keep each other laughing as they navigate the ups and downs of getting older. Netflix. 2 seasons.

Marcella                   Despite marriage woes, a tragic loss, memory blackouts and her struggles as a mom, a London detective excels at what she does best: catching killers. Caveat: this is DARK. Netflix. 3 seasons.

The Fall                     A seemingly cold but very passionate policewoman goes head to head with a seemingly passionate father who is in fact a cold serialist in this procedural out of Belfast. The only thing they share is their common complexity. Netflix. 3 seasons.

Hanna                       Follows the journey of an extraordinary young girl raised in the forest, as she evades the relentless pursuit of an off-book CIA agent and tries to unearth the truth behind who she is. Netflix. 17 episodes.

Black Money Love      Turkish drama. After the shock of his fiance’s sudden death and the accusations of her cheating on him, police detective Omar realizes that there is more behind her suspicious murder. Subtitles. Netflix. 2 seasons.

Bloodline                  A dramatic thriller that explores the demons lurking beneath the surface of a contemporary American family. Netflix. 3 seasons.

Better Call Saul       A small-time attorney hustling to make a name for himself. Prequel to Breaking Bad. Netflix. 5 seasons.

Ozark            A married couple relocate their family to the Ozarks following a money laundering scheme gone wrong. Netflix. 3 seasons.

The Valhalla Murders       Icelandic mystery/thriller about investigation into abuse and possible murder at a state-run boys home. Netflix. 1 season. Voice-overs.

Dr. Foster     BBC TV series about a doctor who suspects that her husband is having an affair. After she follows several lines of inquiry, her life unravels. Netflix. 2 seasons.

Sneaky Pete    A released convict adopts the identity of his cell mate to avoid his past life. Prime. 3 seasons.

Bosch             Based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels, Harry Bosch, an LAPD homicide detective, stands trial for the fatal shooting of a serial murderer. Prime. 6 seasons.

Grace and Frankie             The two think their lives in retirement are all set.  Then their husbands declare their love…for each other. Netflix. 6 seasons.

Peaky Blinders        Set in Birmingham, England, the series follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family in the direct aftermath of the First World War. Netflix. 5 seasons.

Virgin River             Searching for a fresh start, a nurse practitioner moves from LA to a remote northern California town. Netflix. 1 season.

Rita                Danish comedy about a very unconventional teacher who ignores most of the rules. Subtitles. Netflix. 5 seasons.

Unbelieveable          Police in Washington State and Colorado become increasingly skeptical as they question rape victims. Netflix limited series. 1 season.

Barry             Dark comedy. A cold blooded has a career epiphany when he’s thrust into the intoxicating world of LA theatre. Prime. 2 seasons.

The Outsider           Based on Stephen King’s novel. The gruesome murder of a 11 year old boy in the Georgia woods leads a local detective into the disturbing search for the truth. Prime. 1 season.

Succession    When the head of a large conglomerate decides to retire, his 4 grown children vie for the top spot. Prime. 2 seasons.

Divorce         A couple tries to keep things civil for the kids as they navigate the process of separation. Comedy/Drama. HBO. 3 seasons.


Blow the Man Down          Drama/Comedy. Grieving the loss of their mother and facing an uncertain future, Mary Beth & Priscilla Connolly cover up a gruesome run-in with a dangerous man. Prime

Tara Road    The story of two women, one from Ireland and one from America who trade houses without ever having met.  Prime

The Kitchen Three 1978 Hell’s Kitchen housewives decide to take over the “family business” when their mobster husbands are sent to prison. Prime.

White Fang and The Call of the Wild     I put these two together because of their similarities. Both wilderness adventure films with dogs as the true heroes. Prime.

The Good Liar        A con man gets more than he bargains for when he tries to swindle a wealthy woman. Prime.

Gracie’s Choice       A 17 year-old girl with 4 siblings from different fathers and a mother incapable of holding the family together takes over the reins. Prime.

A Simple Plan          Three men find a downed plane in the snowy Minnesota woods. Then they find a gyn bag with 4 million dollars in it. What to do??? Prime.

Belonging                  A sometimes funny, mostly tender story of family life. Prime.

Crazy, Rich Asians            A New Yorker accompanies her boyfriend to China to meet his family only to discover he is very rich. Prime.

Bohemian Rhapsody         Freddie Mercury/Queen. ‘Nuf said. HBO
